Root Dwellers has decided to choose URBAN NATIVE YOUTH ASSOCIATION and we would like to donate all the money raised from our show to their new indigenous hub, The Native Youth Centre, a 50,000 sq ft vision that would be built on the corner of Commercial Drive and East Hastings. UNYA has a philanthropic goal of $6 million to build the Native Youth Centre which is opening doors not only for Indigenous youth, but for the whole community. The centre will offer a diverse continuum of culturally informed, youth-focused programs and services, including: a health and wellness centre, alternative school programs, recreation facilities, social enterprise, spiritual and ceremonial spaces, an arts studio, and more. UNYA is also working with the City of Vancouver to create an affordable housing project, co-located with the Native Youth Centre. This project targets 180 homes, with housing priority given to Indigenous youth and their families. Their shared vision for this complementary housing component is to create a supportive intergenerational community.
